Its beginnings

Founded on 28 February 1986 by Rafael Reyes Vergel, its musical director until 1996. In recognition of his work, the Campillos Municipal School of Music has borne his name since 2001.

Its music and history

After Rafael Reyes, the band has had several musical directors, among them: Francisco Calvo Sánchez, Juan Francisco Lago Cuéllar, Manuel Ruiz Campos, José Aguilar Lima, Abraham Padilla Consuegra, Alfonso López Cortés and, currently, since October 2022, Francisco Javier Fernández Pereira.

It is made up of more than 50 musicians, most of them amateurs, many of whom are studying a range of instruments at professional music conservatoires in the province.

The band is active all year round, taking part in events organised by the Ayuntamiento de Campillos and collaborating with other associations and towns.

In March 2006 the band released an album of Semana Santa music to mark the 20th anniversary of its founding, and took part in Andalusia’s first concert band competition, representing the province of Málaga.

Highlights include its performances at Málaga Cathedral (2018) and at the Procesión Magna Mariana in Antequera (2022). It was also the first Andalusian concert band to take part in the parade at Disneyland Paris (2022).
